“Be so good they can’t ignore you.” – Steve Martin.

Happy February!  This is such a perfect quote for Sintra Portugal 🇵🇹 .  Sintra is one of the those towns that once you visit, you will never forget and you will always long to come back to; it’s so good you can’t ignore it!  It’s absolutely magical and when you arrive you feel as if you’re in a Fairytale, as if all the Disney movies used  Sintra for their inspiration for their Castles 🏰 and Princesses 👸🏻.

Our visit to Portugal was interesting because we made some very novice mistakes for our first visit, lol!  However, this is exactly the reasons we take these trips ✈️, to experience and to learn what works, what doesn’t and what is best for you, our clients…we make the mistakes so you won’t have to; and it does make for some funny, and amusing  stories & adventures!

We originally decided to visit Lisbon and take a day trip to Sintra, but at the last minute, we reversed it, and ended up spending 4 days in Sintra, and making a day trip to Lisbon, and we completely removed 2 days in Galicia, Spain from our trip. (I’ll save the reason for that in another post, lol!)   I don’t even remember what compelled me to change our itinerary in the first place; most likely an article 📰 I read about Sintra, but regardless it was the best decision to stay there for a 2 days verses do a day trip.  Our mistake was visiting Sintra before we visited Lisbon. Sintra is a Unesco World Heritage Site and became the first centre of European Romantic Architecture.  Lord Byron once called  Sintra a “Glorious Eden”, and we couldn’t agree more. Lisbon on the other hand is a modern European city 🌃.  It has everything you could ever want from a 21st century city, amazing food 🥘& spirits, fun people, an extraordinary culture, historical attractions and a great nightlife; but it’s a city.  When you’re in Sintra, it’s like your stepping back in time, to another place…it’s magically  luring, is like no other town I’ve been to in the world 🌎, and truly is the inspiration for any fairytale written. So remember, when you’re visiting, go to Lisbon first, get your 1-3 days experience  there, and then visit and stay in Sintra; just trust me on that one.

One last note, Portugal 🇵🇹 is an amazing country, there isn’t any part of it that I didn’t enjoy and didn’t leave me feeling that it’s the hidden gem 💎 of Europe.  I honestly don’t understand why so many travelers overlook it.  My advice to you is do not miss it, if you are traveling to Spain, Italy, or France, then you’re close enough to add it to your itinerary…you won’t regret it!  Or better yet, forget all the other countries and dedicate your entire holiday to Portugal.  Once you’re bitten by this amazing little country, you will yearn to come back again.

Stay safe, and remember, if you leave your place, cover your face 😷.
